The interlibrary loans & document delivery service is available whenever you need an article or book that is not available via the library.
When an item is requested, the library will source either an online copy of an article or book chapter, or a physical copy of a book.
The service is available free of charge to all SA Health employees who are current library members. If you are not a library member you will need to register for library membership before using the service.
If you have an urgent request please call the library on (08) 8161 2356 or email health.libraryloans@sa.gov.au to ensure that we correctly prioritise your request.
There are two different ways to make an interlibrary loan request - simply choose the option that is easiest for you. Before submitting a request, please search the SA Health Library catalogue and Google Scholar to make sure that the item you need isn't already available.
Option 1
Login to the interlibrary loans portal with your SA Health Library username, select create request and fill out the online form.
Note: if you have more than one account please use your primary account username.
Option 2
When searching the library catalogue you can expand your search to include content from libraries worldwide. When you find an item that is not held in the SA Health Library Service, click on the green Unavailable through SALUS ….request it! button. The advantage with this method is that the interlibrary loan form will already be filled out with the item details. Similarly, if you are searching within the library's databases (such as OVID Medline) look for the request it! button to make an interlibrary loan request.
Once your requested item is available you will receive an email alerting you to its availability.
Articles and book chapters (electronic copies)
To access an electronic document you will be asked to login to the interlibrary loans portal with your SA Health Library username.
Print items
The print item will be available for you to borrow from the pickup location that you selected when you made the request.
If you would like to check the status of your interlibrary loan request please login to the interlibrary loans portal or contact the library via Chat, phone: (08) 8161 2356, or email.
