Consider… CONCENTRATIONS – compatibility is often concentration dependent DILUENT– medication must be compatible with diluent LINES AND LUMENS – peripheral or central, number of lumens in central line HOW WILL THE MEDICATIONS COME INTO CONTACT – Y-site, admixture, syringe ADMINISTRATION RATES – indicates duration of contact CONTAINER – PVC, polyethylene, polyurethane, polyolefin OTHER PARENTERAL MEDICATIONS/ FLUIDS – provides alternative compatibility options pH – medications unlikely to be compatible if there is a large difference in pH SAFETY – will administration change the rate of the medication already running.
